Book review and blog calendar

Some updates to things around the site:

The book reviews are pretty much working. For whatever reason, unless you are logged in as a user, it will only let you read the full review of the first (latest) 10 on the list. There are two workarounds (besides paying 80 bucks for the upgraded version, which I won't since it only comes with a year of support): you can create a free account (only takes seconds), or if you see a book review you want to read, use the search bar at the very top of the page and you'll be able to read it that way.

Still haven't heard back from the developer of the blog calendar (the original coder switched the project to a different developer), so keep imagining that the year 2000 says 2007.

That's it, more book reviews coming soon, keep on reading and giving me feedback!

Book review system working

The book review system is up and running! While there are still a few bugs to be worked out, all the functionality is there, so I decided to start it up. The "Top Rated Books" on the right side of the page is showing more than it's supposed to, so hopefully I can get that fixed before the database gets too big! Feel free to comment on any books already in the system, and add and review your own. You'll need to register an account first, so if you have any questions, let me know. I'm going to try to add a few reviews each day.

In related news, I was hoping to also add a beer and wine section to the reviews. There are a lot of wines that I like, but I can never remember them, and I know a lot of people have given me suggestions for beers to try, but again, I tend to forget. So the plan was to create a repository of beers and wines so visitors could add their own picks and see what others recommend. As or right now, I can't get that to work with the book review software (and I really don't want to pay the 80 dollars for the "upgraded" version), so I'm looking for a new solution, but it may be a while. But until then, add some books for me!

Book reviews coming soon!

I found a component to put together a book review system.  I'm still ironing all the details out of it, but I will hopefully be filling it soon.  Anyone will be able to submit books and reviews as well, allowing it to be more interactive.  More details soon!

Subdomains created

I created two subdomains to ease navigation around the site.  blog.michaelcrane.net and portfolio.michaelcrane.net will now take you directly to their respective sections.

New weblinks added

A whole load of new weblinks have been added, including an entirely new category, Timed art.  Feel free to check them out and let me know what you think.  I'm still working on other updates, so expect them soon!

New site skin

I put a new blue site skin up, a little more festive for the holiday season (complete with snow).   It's been quite an ordeal making it, but now that I know how to do it, I'll be able to make more in the future fairly quickly, so look for more to come.  I hope you like it!

Photo gallery updates

I've added two new photo galleries: koinonia-3 and superbowl .  The gallery from Koinonia 3 includes both the snowed in, canceled weekend on the mountain and the actual retreat the next year.  The superbowl gallery are pictures from my double-decker party in Aurelius when the Steelers won Superbowl XL.  None of the pictures were taken by me (thankfully I have friends with cameras), and I'm always looking for more pictures of the events, if you have any, let me know.

I'm working on getting more photo galleries up, including pictures from Koinonia 4, hopefully I'll get to them soon!

New weblinks added

New weblinks have been added, including an entire category of sushi links!  Check them out if you have a few minutes.
